a sky in the eye
(2025)
for violin & piano
Written for violin and piano, the piece experiments with two characteristics of notationalpractice to explore the gradient of interpretations by the performers. One calls for improvisatorymusic-making, inviting musicians to interpret text instructions and a visual image of a cyanotypeprint. The other consists of more fixed material written in the traditional notational system. The piece explores the dialogue between the openness of the indeterminate materials and thestructure of the fixed notation.

premiered by Jésus Cervantes (violin) & Lola de Oliveira (piano)
on April 19, 2026 at UC San Diego Conrad Prebys Concert Hall as part of Spring Festival 2026 - Listening Together: Concert 3
